Top tip #1. Clean up your home entranceway

Top tip #2. Update your patio and garden furniture
Is it old? Does it fall apart when someone sits on it?
Time to repair it or get rid of it. There’s nothing worse than worrying your guests are going to fall to the floor or get a splinter in their bottom.
If your furniture is okay you probably need to give it a good power wash to get rid of any mould and grime that’s built up over winter. Not only will this make it look fantastic, but if you get a few new cushions they’ll look like new.
Even Aldi now stocks some on-trend and cheap cushions, rugs and table decorations to make your outdoor area inviting. And it’s Aldi – so you know it won’t break the bank.
Seal your timber table and chairs
It is actually quite easy to update your timber table and chairs.
After winter, they’re likely to need a clean and a coat of garden furniture oil to bring them up like new again.

Top tip #3. Get your patio and verandah into shape!
Do you want them to look like this?
Do your backyard pavers look like this?
Which photo to the right is your patio or dining area? Do your outdoor pavers have weeds and mould growing in the cracks?
You could spend hours and perhaps a whole weekend weeding it and giving it a good scrub with all the elbow grease you can muster.
Even then, you probably wouldn’t get the results on the right.

Clean your home exterior: Regrouting your tiles
If you don’t have pavers but do have tiles, you might think about giving them a pressure clean followed by a re-grout.
When you live with tiles like on the ‘before’ side of the photo on the left, you tend to forget how good they looked when you first got them done. Even though they’re technically clean, all that mould has grown in between the tiles that’s nearly impossible to get rid of permanently.

Clean your home exterior: Cleaning your Wooden Deck
Just like pavers and tiles, wooden decks can also attract grime and mould over the winter months.

Top tip #4. Make a clear path through the house to the outdoors
Time is precious and you don’t have time to clean every room in your house and you want to focus on your home exterior where you’ll be spending the most time entertaining. So let’s prioritise those indoor areas!
Technically this isn’t a tip on house washing your home exterior; but it’s important you don’t forget about these internal rooms that are going to be visited when you are entertaining.
Most important is to sort out your bathroom, kitchen, and rooms your guests will actually walk through on their way to your outdoor entertaining area.
- Bathroom:
- Empty bins
- Clean sink and mirrors
- Wipe-down the shower area
- Hideaway any unnecessary items
- Use a pump hand-wash rather than soap to keep your surfaces clean of suds
- Don’t forget a hand towel!
- Kitchen:
- Clear the bench of as much as possible and prepare food in advance
- Walkways and shared rooms
- Get rid of as much clutter as you can
- Vacuum and mop all floors
- Buy an inexpensive reed diffuser from a shop like Kmart to give your home that clean, fresh smell. You won’t want to leave yourself!
