How I ended up Pressure Cleaning Gold Coast
Almost every job I do some Pressure Cleaning Gold Coast these days I get asked one of 2 questions;
- “How did you end up pressure cleaning?”
- “How long have you lived on the Gold Coast?”
It has made me want to share my story on paper! I want to cover how I got into pressure cleaning, my experience with pressure cleaning & concrete resurfacing and sealing, why I moved to the Gold Coast, why I started my own Gold Coast Pressure Cleaning business and finish on a personal note about my extraordinary, but satisfyingly normal life!
How I got into Pressure Cleaning
This is easy to start!!!
When I was 18yrs old half way through my cabinet making apptership spending all my day inside a shed, I remember going to work one morning & saying to myself once this 4yrs is up I NEVER WANT to be working in a shed ever again.
What else did I learn while doing my trade that I’m great with my hands & a keen eye for details.
From this I moved around the country from Redcliff in the north to Newcastle in the south doing shop fitting & kitchen installations I new that the traveling was for me. From this I knew I wanted to travel & seen the opportunities in a pressure cleaning company based in Sydney approximately 10yrs old & were looking for workers, so I answered the call. Moving through the ranks to be highest ranking supervisor over 3yrs & with another 5yrs experience doing 20-30K kms a yr there was nothing I hadn’t seen on all types of work sites from
- OH&S,
- Logistics,
- Staff management,
- Job flow,
- Client management,
- Reporting to GM
- Equipment servicing,
- Maintenance & security.
This roll lead me to being Operations Manager for Pressure Cleaning Gold Coast City Council Foot Paths Contract. The contract was for 2 years and in that time it really cemented my desire to be the best that I could be and make a difference, I also fell in love with the Gold Coast! Who can blame me right? Its now 5 years and 3 children later and still loving life here on the Coast!
My experience with pressure cleaning & sealing, concrete resurfacing
So from 22yrs old to 32yrs old with a pressure cleaner & equipment in toe for that long you forget more about the cleaning industry then most know. (to learn more Link up our (Capability statement/experience)? Or list them here?
10yrs & being trained for 8 yrs of that by one of the biggest pressure cleaning & sealing companies on the east coast of Australia – Techni-clean Australia I got to learn from the best & see with results based trial & error (few & far between) what was the safest approach with the highest of quality giving the longest lasting results while been efficient in every aspect known to the industry.
Sounds like a lot! but after doing this for 8 yrs it become 2nd nature.
From Government projects, local councils pressure cleaning & Graffiti Management contracts, high rise construction projects with some of the leading companies in Australia & the world to a house washes & driveway clean & seal to deliver the right outcomes on budget time & time again.

Why I moved to the Gold Coast to do Pressure Cleaning
The pressure cleaning company I was working for sent me as Operations Manager for Pressure Cleaning Gold Coast City Council Footpath Cleaning Contract. During that time it became obvious to me the area had a massive need & market for an experienced pressure cleaning company that could offer a variety of services, but more importantly have the ability to use different quality products such as Techni-Seal, Sure-Seal Sealants, Parchem and Solutions products.;

The Gold Coast was a great place to work & even better to relax & unwind! Once I arrived I know within that week I wanted to settle down
with my new wife on the Gold Coast. So the planning was underway and after only a few weeks pressure cleaning on the Gold Coast my wife was sold on moving to the Gold Coast to be together.
Pressure cleaning on the gold coast as operation manager was a huge personal test, It was around 400,000m2 for the GCCC that’s an average of 33,000m2 a month. I did this for almost 3yrs with many night shift hours & hard work we successfully completed the 3yr pressure cleaning Gold Coast contract for the Gold Coast City Council.
Something’s out side of my control happened & the pressure cleaning company that I had been with for 8yrs was not perusing their interest in pressure cleaning on the Gold Coast any longer, which was hard to take but I was grateful for the enormity of the knowledge that had been imparted onto me & the opportunities I got.
Why I started my own business on the Gold Coast
From the relationship you build with suppliers/ building managers/architect to the friendships that are created to be able to deliver on service, safety & results, I had learnt that you need a great team & coming from a team sport back ground this is something that had been deeply ingrained in my 2nd nature! I knew that Ben Walkom (thats me) had more to offer than working for someone else.
So I was not going to stop pressure cleaning on the Gold Coast, I was partly feeling like I had wasted time building a brand/ Business that I was no longer apart off & partly excited about what the future challengers would tech me.
I did some thinking about how this could never happen again!!! Over the time of pressure cleaning on the Gold Coast I’d grown to love the people & its up beat positive family vibe & as our family had grown by 2 I was not leaving the Gold coast for anything. So the only answer I could see was to started my very own Pressure Cleaning Gold Coast business – Astute Asset Management was born!!
